Quake exposes 14 new sinkholes as Cebu total climbs past 200

MANILA – When the magnitude 6.9 earthquake devastated Northern Cebu on Sept. 30, an invisible geological hazard violently surfaced: sinkholes that began to appear in Bogo City, San Remigio, and nearby towns, leaving residents alarmed and geologists on high alert.

Immediately, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources’ Mines and Geosciences Bureau (DENR-MGB) rushed to the area, highlighting a critical reality.
